Strathalbyn v Hahndorf - ‘A’ Grade Women
The first time this season that an A women game was played on a Saturday the weather turned out to be quite warm. Strathalbyn came up to bat first and had hits to Buttsy Milne and Gab Martin with the only safe hit to Tash Mayes but with Hahndorf’s third baser Chloe Davis taking a catch, short stop Abby Bastian picking off the runner at second and a K2 to pitcher/catcher combo of Rylee Zobel to Georgia King, Martin and Mayes were left stranded on base unable to score. Hahndorf’s turn at bat was also scoreless with Strath’s pitcher Tess Norris fielding and throwing to the safe glove of Milne at first, combining with catcher Martin for a K2 and a line drive catch to third baser Mayes sending them from the diamond.
The second dig for Strath was also scoreless even with Norris getting on to base due to Hahndorf making another two K2’s and picking the runner off at second base. Hahndorf had hits to Mia Oats-Willis, Charlotte Fairley and Bastian in the second bringing home three runs with Strath’s left fielder Rebecca Sims taking a catch, Mayes now at short stop picking off the runner at second and Norris again making an out at first to end the innings.
Strath were looking to get a score on the board but even with a walk to Ashlee Peterson and hits to Kim Cutting, Milne and Mayes they were unable to bring anyone home with Hahndorf making an out at first, a K2 and a great running catch in foul territory by Davis. Strath were again able to hold Hahndorf scoreless in the third with another line drive catch by Mayes and new catcher Cutting taking two high ball catches to send them back to the dugout.
The intention for Strath to make runs in the fourth was there with some great swinging but apart from Emily Eglitis they were unable to connect and get on with Hahndorf making another two K2’s and an out at first to again hold them scoreless. Hahndorf came out swinging in their turn at bat and with multiple safe hits, great base running and Oats-Willis gaining a home run it brought in seven runs which was enough to call the game with the only out being made by Milne fielding and playing her base. Hahndorf came out on top on a hot day 10 runs to Strathalbyn 0.
Strathalbyn v Macclesfield - ‘C’ Grade Women
On a warm day Macclesfield were up to bat first and produced hits to Claudia Lions and Karlyn McLeod which helped push Amabel Lions around the bases for the only run of the innings with Strathalbyn’s third baser Rebecca Sims making an out at first, working well with short stop Annabel McGregor for an out at third and McGregor fielding and throwing to the safe glove of Lavinia Seymour at first. Strath came in to bat and through some good choices they gained some walks, had a safe bunt to Sims and a single to Laura Sneath and with some great base stealing they were able to bring in seven runs with Maccy’s short stop C. Lions making an out at first and left fielder A. Lions taking a catch and quickly throwing to third to catch the runner out of their ground for a double play.
The second innings for Maccy was three up three down with Seymour involved in all three outs first taking a catch, then fielding and playing her own base and then receiving the ball from pitcher Amy Bailey to send them from the diamond scoreless. Strath had safe hits to Sims, Amber Crawford and Sneath but they could only add one run with Maccy making another two outs at first and C. Lions fielding and making the tag on the runner to end the innings.
The third batting dig for Maccy was facing first time pitcher Sneath and C. Lions had a safe hit and with some choosy batting again they got runners on and with some great base running they were able to bring home three runs with Strath’s Sims now at short stop making an out at first, taking a catch and then fielding and getting the runner out on second base. Strath’s third turn at bat produced a safe hit to Vanessa Kitto but they were only able to add one run to the tally with Maccy picking off a runner at second, making another out at first and catcher Zarlee Winitana fielding and getting the ball to first base for the third and final out of the innings and the game. Strathalbyn were the winners with 9 runs to Macclesfield 4.
