Mixed day on the diamond for Strathalbyn Softball seniors

Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Hills Heat Masters)

Strath was up to bat first but Masters were great in the field and made an out at first, an out at second and Kylie Barrington took a catch at second to hold them scoreless. Masters came into bat and were also three up, three down with an out at first, a catch at centre by Emily Eglitis and a K2 to pitcher/catcher combo of Tess Norris to Peyton Daniels.

The second innings for Strath had a two base hit to Daniels but she was unable to make it home with all three outs made at first base. Two K2’s and Kim Cutting fielding at shortstop and throwing to Rebekah Mayes at first ended Masters second batting innings with no added score.

Tash Mayes earned a walk in the third dig and stole the next two bases and was brought home by a hit to Eglitis for the only run of the innings with Masters making two outs at first and a K2 to Kel O’Brien and Sharon Perkins to end the innings. With some safe hits to Perkins, Meg Chaplin, Lisa Wilson and Hantie Pretorious Masters brought home their first two runs for the game with an out at second and another two outs by the safe glove of R. Mayes at first.

The fourth dig for Strath produced a run to Norris after a safe hit to the outfield with walks to R and T. Mayes and a hit to Ashlee Peterson but they were left stranded on base with Masters making another two outs at first and a K2. Mis Ausman had a safe hit to the outfield also and was pushed around the diamond and brought home from some well placed hits with Strath making another two outs at first and R. Mayes fielding and playing her base for the third out.

Strath’s fifth dig produced a home run to Cutting which was the only run for the innings and the tying run with an infield fly, a catch taken at shortstop by Julie Briggs and a final K2 sending Masters in for their final bat and a chance to advance their score. Strath needed to defend the tie and did with Cutting again fielding and throwing to first for the out, another K2 and T. Mayes at third fielding and throwing to R. Mayes to make the third out tag to end the game as a draw three runs each.

Hills Softball Association ‘C’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Macclesfield)

Macclesfield were up to bat first and had safe hits to Beth Lions and Valerie Pederson with both making it home for two runs while the outs were one for batting out of order, an out at home made by first time catcher Annabel McGregor who quickly threw to third to catch the runner off base for a double play. Strath came in to bat and gained some walks which moved players around the diamond with Laura Sneath the only batter to get a safe hit which all brought four runs home with Maccy’s Lisa Lions being a part of all three outs at third.

The second dig for Maccy had safe hits to L. Lions, Zarlee Winitara and Annabel Lions bringing home a further two runs with one runner being called out for leaving the base early with short stop Amber Crawford and pitcher Rebecca Sims both taking catches to end the innings. Sims, Amy Bailey and Sneath all had safe hits in their second turn at bat and with some walks, errors and great base running Strath added another four runs to their tally with an out at first, a catch taken by shortstop B. Lions who quickly threw to third to catch the runner off base for a tag and double play.

The third dig for Maccy produced hits to several players but they were fielded well and thrown to Nicole Filsell at first base for two outs with new pitcher/catcher combo of Bailey to Crawford working well for a K2 to hold them scoreless. Strath came in to bat again and gained walks with McGregor and Sneath getting hits but again with some great base stealing they brought another four runs home with Maccy making an out at first, a catch at centre field by Winitara and a K2 to end the innings and the game with Strath coming out on top with 12 runs to Maccy’s 4.
