Mixed results for Strathalbyn Softball seniors

Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Hahndorf)

Strathalbyn were up to bat first but Hahndorf’s fielding was good, making two outs at first and a K2 to send them from the diamond three up three down. Hahndorf’s turn at bat was also scoreless with an out made at first, a catch taken at short stop by Kim Cutting and a catch taken at left field by Tash Mayes ending the innings.

Strath had safe outfield hits to Emily Eglitis, Rebekah Mayes and T. Mayes and with some good base running they brought home two runs with Hahndorf’s centre fielder Rylee Zobel taking a catch, an out made at first and another K2 to pitcher Tahlia Larosa stopping the flow. A home run to Charlotte Fairley added to Hahndorf’s tally and so did a further two runs and included a safe hit to Tracy Luxon with Cutting taking a catch and two K2’s to Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo of Norris to Bianca Pash.

Strath were held scoreless again in the third dig but it did include a hit to the outfield by Kathryn “Buttsy” Milne with Hahndorf making two outs at first and short stop Brea Luxon taking a catch. A safe hit to Megan Williams and a three bagger from Fairley brought in one run for Hahndorf with R. Mayes taking a catch at right field, T. Mayes taking another catch at left and Cutting getting her third catch for the night.

A three bagger to Eglitis and a fielding error drawn by R. Mayes got them on base but they were left stranded with Hahndorf taking a catch, making a K2 and B. Luxon taking another catch to hold Strath scoreless. Fielding choices and some errors made helped to get Hahndorf batters on base and with some great base running two runners were brought home by a two base hit to Williams with Strath’s Cutting making an out at first, second baser Ashlee Peterson taking a catch and Cutting taking her fourth catch for the game ending the innings.

The fifth dig for Strath was also scoreless but batters were making hits which unfortunately landed in Handorf fielders safe gloves with catches taken at right field, second base and third base which ended the innings and the game with Hahndorf coming out on top 6 runs to 2.

Hills Softball Association ‘C’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Echunga)

Strathalbyn had confidence going in to their first batting dig and had safe hits to Rebecca Sims and Laura Sneath with Monica Spriggs getting two two-basers, Amy Bailey making a three base hit to right field and Amber Crawford starting with a two baser and following up with a home run the second time around all helping to bring home the full ten runs. Echunga fielded well after an infield fly was called out and they quickly threw to first to catch the runner short of the base. The first turn at bat for Echunga produced safe hits to Molly Playford and Hayley Brown but they were left stranded on base with Strath’s first baser Sneath taking a catch in foul territory and two K2’s to pitcher/catcher combo of Bailey to Crawford ending the innings.

More safe hits to Strath in the second dig, including one to Shannon Patton, another two baser to Spriggs and a home run to Sims brought home nine runs with Echunga’s third baser Brown making an out at home and short stop Lily Byfield taking two catches with the last while turning and running sideways. Echunga’s second turn at bat included a hit to Chris Warwick and walks gained by E. Playford and Byfield and with some great base stealing the latter two made it home to get Echunga on the scoreboard with Strath making another K2 and two outs into Sneath’s safe glove at first base to end the innings and the game with Strathalbyn coming out on top 19 runs to Echunga 2.
