Mobility access day at Deep Creek

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will hold a TrailRider Demo Day at Deep Creek Conservation Park on Friday 20 September.

The TrailRider is a single-wheeled mobility transport supporter. The wheel supports the rider’s weight while the handles at the front and back allow helpers to guide the rider up and down tracks.

It is designed for people with limited mobility to access trails not suitable for traditional wheelchairs and requires a minimum of two people to assist with its operation.

Friendly rangers will be available on the day to assist if required, but if you can’t make the demo day there is a TrailRider you can borrow for free from the District Council of Yankalilla.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has also developed a map of suggested routes in Deep Creek where the TrailRider could be best used.

The demo day will run from 10am to 2pm and participants should take along a bike helmet, drinking water, sunscreen and suitable clothes.

The meeting point is the Stringybark Campground on Tappanappa Road, Delamere.

In the event of severe weather or if the day is declared a Total Fire Ban the event will be cancelled.

Find more information and register for this event at Eventbrite.

The day is a part of the Fleurieu Coast Festival of Nature, which runs from September 14-21.

For those more inclined to the beach there is a free beach wheelchair come and try day, also on September 20, at the Normanville Foreshore from 11am.

Bookings are essential, also at Eventbrite
