Monitor river catchments in Waterbug Bioblitz

The Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board is calling for community help in monitoring the health of local river catchment areas.

The Bremer catchment and the Angas Finniss catchment areas will be the targets of a waterbug bioblitz, with full day family-friendly events.

It will involve getting out in the field collecting and sorting macroinvertebrate (waterbug) samples and taking water quality measurements from sites across the catchment areas.

The first Bremer Waterbug Bioblitz will take place on Sunday 6 November from 9am to 5pm.

The meeting point will be at the Wistow Hall as the catchment area takes in Wistow, Callington, Harrogate, Mount Barker and Dawesley.

Register to attend by Wednesday 2 November via Eventbrite

The Angas Finniss Waterbug Bioblitz will take place on Friday 18 November from 8.45am to 5pm.

The meeting point will be at the Strathalbyn Natural Resource Centre as the catchment area takes in Macclesfield, Strathalbyn, Meadows, Prospect Hill and Paris Creek.

Register to attend by Friday 14 November via Eventbrite

Participants will help to monitor the catchments’ health and track the changes over time.

They should wear long shirt, pants, enclosed boots or gumboots, hat, and take a water bottle. Coffee, morning tea and lunch will be provided.

For more information about the Bioblitz project contact Dana Miles, Community Engagement Coordinator - Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board – via email or check out the website.

The initiative is supported by the Australian and South Australian Government’s Flows for the Future program, Department for Environment and Water, District Council of Mount Barker and the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board.
