SA Health says there have been 5054 new cases of COVID reported in South Australia today, the highest daily number to date.
There are currently 30,525 active cases in South Australia.
A woman in her 70s, a woman in her 80s, four women in their 90s and a man in his 80s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away.
There are 354 people with COVID-19 in hospital. This is 21 more than yesterday and 62 more than on Monday, putting increasing pressure on SA Health resources.
Of those hospitalised, 206 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 88 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 60 have an unknown vaccination status.
The latest genome sampling has found 20.7% of samples analysed were BA.2, 18% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 56.7% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.
Locally, popular Goolwa restaurant Bombora has been closed since July 16 due to COVID related staff shortages and will not be able to reopen until July 28.
There are also reports of multiple cases of COVID in many local aged care homes.
Schools return for the start of term three on Monday, but the government has resisted calls from the Australian Medical Association and epidemiologists to mandate mask wearing by students and teachers.
