Morphett Vale back in the top four in the Southern Football League

Morphett Vale have moved inside the top four in the Southern Football League (SFL) following a crushing 110-point win against Cove in round six action on Saturday at Morphett Vale. A tight first quarter gave no inkling of what was to come as scores were level at the first break. From that moment on however, it was all Morphett Vale as they kicked 20 goals to three to win 22.16 (148) to 6.2 (38). The Emus had 11 different goalkickers with Jack Glazbrook leading the way with four goals while Ben Charlesworth kicked three goals for the Cobras. Better players for the Emus included Braydan Hartwig, David Sampson and Daniel Bode. For the Cobras, Daniel Seirch, Kyle Stoldt and Damian Roach battled hard.


Christies Beach consolidated second position on the SFL ladder with a big 99-point win at Port Noarlunga. Christies Beach played a solid first half to take a 26-point lead to halftime before they really put their foot down after the break to kick 15 goals to four and win 23.15 (153) to 8.6 (54). The Saints had nine different goalkickers with Blake Carter kicking eight majors while Daniel Nobes kicked six goals. Nobes now has 36 goals from six games in 2020. Nick Steele kicked three goals for Port Noarlunga and Dylan Williams kicked two. Andrew Bachmann, Josiah Sheppard, Carter, Shane Pettiford and Nobes were best for the Saints while Steele, Aaron Petersen and Steve O’Brien were among the best players for the Cockle Divers.


2019 runner-up Noarlunga notched their fourth win on the trot with a convincing 48-point victory at Happy Valley. The Shoes lost their first two games but have not lost since then and have moved up to third spot on the ladder. Happy Valley started well to lead by seven points at quarter time before Noarlunga turned it around to take the lead by seven points themselves at halftime. Nine goals to two in the second half saw Noarlunga win 15.10 (100) to 7.10 (52). Vic Robertson kicked five goals for the Shoes and Harry Davenport kicked three for the Vikings. Noarlunga were best served by Sammual Miller, Nathan Schulz and Robertson while the Vikings best players were Tate Coleman, Henry Kerrison and Justin Schurgott.


Flagstaff Hill continued on their merry way in 2020 with a sixth consecutive victory, this time by 81 points over Reynella at Flagstaff Hill. The Falcons have been untouchable so far this season with an average winning margin of 57 points. The Falcons led by three points at quarter time, 22 points at halftime, 42 points at three quarter time, before kicking six goals to zero in the final term to win 15.13 (103) to 3.4 (22). Mitchell Johnson led the goalkickers for Flagstaff Hill with three goals while Reynella had all individual goalscorers. Brad Kirk, Luke Beenham, David Kearsley, Johnson and Michael Shearer were best for the reigning premiers while for the Wine Flies, Shaun Miller, Nick Dixon and Steven Sullivan were among their best players.
