Morphett Vale on the move in the Southern Football League

Morphett Vale have moved up to third position on the Southern Football League (SFL) ladder after a 19-point win against Reynella in round four action on Sunday at Morphett Vale. Reynella started well to jump out to a handy 17-point lead at quarter time. The next two quarters were tight with the home side reducing the margin slightly but the Wine Flies still led at the final change by 14 points. The Emus came out full of fire in the final term and urged on by their home crowd, they turned the game around with a 5.5 to 0.2 quarter to win 12.17 (89) to 10.10 (70). Jack Glazbrook kicked three goals for the winners while Bailey Marshman also kicked three for Reynella.

2019 runner-up Noarlunga moved into the top four with a convincing 38-point victory at home against Happy Valley. The Shoes started strongly to take a 24-point lead at quarter time and they extended the margin out to 33 points at the long break. An even third quarter saw the home side turn for home with a handy 31-point lead. Noarlunga had given up big leads at three quarter time in the opening two rounds but this time they would not be denied as they ran out winners 13.5 (83) to 6.9 (45). Troy Johnson led the way up forward for the Shoes with four goals while Sam Carlyle was named best on ground. Rhys Barrett and Ben Ryan each kicked two goals for Happy Valley with Dwayne Ruddock named the Vikings best player.

Christies Beach put up a cricket score as they thrashed Cove by 128 points at Cove on Saturday. The win pushed the Saints up to second on the ladder with a healthy percentage boost. Christies led by 39 points at quarter time, 64 at halftime, 96 points at three quarter time before a 10 goal to five final term saw the final score blow out to 28.20 (188) to 8.12 (60). After a consistent start to the season with four goals in each of the first three games, Daniel Nobes exploded with 14 majors to give him 26 after just four rounds. For the second week in a row Jacob Crate was named best for the Saints. Jay Butler-Chaseling kicked three goals for Cove while Scott Grieve was named best for the Cobras.

Flagstaff Hill has firmed as a hot favourite to win a fifth consecutive premiership after notching their fourth straight victory to open their 2020 campaign, this time by 94 points against Port Noarlunga. The game was effectively over at quarter time after a blistering 10-goal burst in the first term by the Falcons saw them lead by 62 points at the first break. Port Noarlunga were more competitive after quarter time but eventually went down 23.16 (154) to 9.6 (60). Flaggies had plenty of avenues to goal with 10 different goal kickers including Daniel Butcher (6), Nick Bailey (5) and Ryan Mountford (3). Ian Milera played a lone hand for the Cockle Divers with six majors. Sadly the game was marred by Flagstaff Hill Football Club supporters allegedly directing racist insults at Indigenous players from Port Noarlunga, including Milera. The incident was brought to light when Milera posted on social media after the game saying it was "one of the worst days" he had experienced in his football career. The incident is currently under investigation.
