The long-awaited Mount Compass Recreation Park will be officially opened on Sunday 13 October at 11am.
The park has been available for use since 6 September except for the BMX track, which has been fenced off to allow the track to dry out and have its final coating applied.
The project was tendered in September 2018, but construction was delayed as the estimated cost exceeded the Alexandrina Council’s initial allocated budget.
Member for Finniss David Basham helped secure $300,000 from the state government to top up council funding of $850,000.
The project has transformed a previously barren reserve into a vibrant, welcoming community space for residents and visitors.
Alexandrina Council Mayor Keith Parkes is confident the park will meet the expectations of the Mount Compass community and provide a valuable, multi-use public space for the benefit of current and future generations.
“We appreciate the feedback offered by the community in planning the Mount Compass Recreation Park,” he says.
The final design was enthusiastically supported at public consultation forums and includes a skate park and nature play space, as well as the BMX track.
You can access the Mount Compass Recreation Park from a number of surrounding streets including Anderson Street, Waye Court, Haywood Court and Eckers Court.
