Federal MP for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie has called on the state government to do better on Covid-19 testing in the region.
The Centre Alliance MP says her office has received many calls from people concerned about inadequate testing arrangements.
She has called on the State Government to urgently ensure sufficient supplies of rapid antigen tests are provided in the regions, including the south coast and Kangaroo Island.
She says clear information and supports must be made available for vulnerable people, including older people and those living with disability to access timely testing, particularly if they cannot access transport or online information and bookings.
“It is not good enough for vulnerable people to be left waiting for hours in the heat at regional testing sites without water, shelter or toilet facilities.
“I thank and support our front-line health workers who are doing their best to keep up with demand.
“And as I have many times before during Covid-19, I call on the Government not to forget our regional communities during this phase of the pandemic.”
Ms Sharkie says she has contacted members of both State Government and Opposition to raise these concerns and has invited people in need of support to reach out to her team.
