Mount Compass CFS volunteers have been promised a new, roadworthy truck by the end of week
It was revealed last week that they were having to respond to road accidents in a ute after being given an unroadworthy 20-year-old truck as a replacement vehicle.
"A truck that's 20 years old, that's got a rusted frame, that leaks fluid and it's probably a fire hazard in itself."
Emergency Services Minister, Joe Szakacs told the ABC this morning that the new truck would arrive this week.
He said he had sought urgent briefings from the CFS to make sure the brigade and its “amazing” volunteers had the right truck.
He also said he would visit the brigade as early as next week.
Alexandrina Councillor Bill Coomans told the ABC on Friday that the brigade had been given, "a truck that's 20 years old, that's got a rusted frame, that leaks fluid and it's probably a fire hazard in itself".
That truck was itself a replacement for a 34P truck that had ongoing issues with weight limits and safety.
The Mount Compass CFS Captain Anthony Baker was suspended in September last year after speaking out about the initial problems with the 34P.
The community rallied behind him with 29 000 people signed a petition protesting his treatment by CFS management.
Captain Baker was reinstated on Christmas Eve.
