Mudlarks, Crushers & Magpies all undefeated in Great Southern Cricket

Myponga-Sellicks remained undefeated following their thrilling 13-run win against Mount Compass during round three action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. Mount Compass resumed day two at 0/12 in pursuit of the Mudlarks’ first innings total of 209 and they started in good fashion with openers Scott McAvaney (78) and Joel Webber (52) in fine form. Scott McMahon (29) and Paul Barrett (17) made handy contributions but the game changed when the Mudlarks took the new ball after 70 overs. Left-arm seamer Vinnie Nizzola ran through the ‘Compass’ tail to bowl them out for 196 in the 77th over. Nizzola finished with the excellent figures of 5/62 from a marathon 29.3 overs, and he was well supported by James Paterson with 2/57 (20).

Goolwa are also still undefeated after an excellent bowling effort helped them to a 57-run win over Noarlunga at Goolwa Oval. The Magpies were bowled out for 120 on day one with skipper Jayden Crees top scoring with 41. Crees completed an excellent all-round game with figures of 5/17 from 20 overs. He was well supported by James Lawrence (2/9) and Josh Jones, who bowled a marathon 28 overs on the trot to snare 2/31. Matthew Spaan (19) and Dale Parrish (10) were the only Noarlunga batsmen to reach double figures as the Shoes were bowled out for just 63.

Encounter Bay won their first game of the season after defeating reigning premier Willunga by six wickets on Saturday. The Bays resumed day two on 1/20, chasing Willunga’s small total of 80. Encounter Bay lost three quick wickets as Simon Roberts (3/37) and Sean McIvor (1/27) did their best to get the Demons back in the game. However it wasn’t to be for Willunga, as Finn Magor (31 not out) and Cam Lintern (22 not out) saw the Bays to victory with six wickets in hand.

Port Elliot won their second game of the season after a convincing 110-run win over Yankalilla. Port Elliot posted a competitive score of 9/204 on day one and they were never in any danger on Saturday. No Yankalilla batsman reached 20 with Ryan Borlace (17 not out) and Lachlan Whittlesea (16) the leading run scorers for the Tigers. Four Port Elliot bowlers took wickets with Ben Martin the standout with figures of 4/10 from eight overs. Chris O’Connor (2/19) was the other multiple wicket taker.

As reported last week, McLaren Districts defeated Aldinga outright by an innings and 39 runs on day one (22/10) of their clash at Aldinga Oval. The Crushers are undefeated and on top of the ladder heading into their home clash on Saturday with Myponga-Sellicks, who are also undefeated.
