Myponga-Sellicks won their second game of the season after a low-scoring 14-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 8 action in the Great Southern Football League ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at Goolwa yesterday. Goolwa/Port Elliot led by eight points at the last change, before the Mudlarks came home with a rush, kicking 3.4 to 0.0, to win 5.6 (36) to 3.4 (22). Grace Deacon kicked four goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Mudlarks. Other good players for the visitors included Tayte Mathewson, Kimberley Gilbert, Eden Coleman and Caroline Scott. Best for the Magpies were Annabel Cameron, Elena Earl, Jessica Bailey (2 goals), Indi Miller, Carin Kappler and Ellie Fry.
Yankalilla/Encounter Bay consolidated their position in the top-four after defeating Victor Harbor by 22 points at Encounter Bay yesterday. It was a dour struggle with no goals kicked in the first three quarters as the Stingrays turned for home with a seven-point lead. All four goals for the game came in the last term as Yankalilla/Encounter Bay ran out winners 3.11 (29) to 1.1 (7). Halle James kicked two majors for the Stingrays, while Demi Morse was the sole goalkicker for the Magpies. Best players for Yankalilla/Encounter Bay included James, Czenya Cavouras, Rhiannon Gaythwaite-Cotton, Jaimi Griffen, Tyler Rigney Garrett and Amelia Bilney. The Magpies were best served by Jaimee Millard, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Morse, Danika Millard, Zoe Bartholomaeus and Lauren Cousins.
Willunga remained undefeated after defeating McLaren Districts by 33 points in their top-of-the-ladder at McLaren Vale last Friday night. The Demons’ win was set up by a four-goal second term that saw them take a 25-point lead at halftime. The second half was quite even as Willunga triumphed 7.5 (47) 2.2 (14). Jessica Kirk continued her excellent season for Willunga with six goals (26 for the season), while other good players for the Demons included Cleo Guilfoyle, Sarah Wright, Jodie Hunt, Kirstin Remfrey and Bella Rigby. Mia Hamilton, Charlotte Watson, Layla Rogers, Caitlin Ross, Eva Petrucci and Abby Woodward were named best for the Eagles.
