Mudlarks looking good in Great Southern Cricket

Myponga-Sellicks are well on their way to victory after a strong first day in their contest with Aldinga during round 11 action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) at Myponga yesterday. The Mudlarks finished the day at 1/62, after earlier bowling Aldinga out for 88. Sean Haverty (28 not out) and Ryan Haverty (18 not out) will resume on day two, looking to build a good lead before putting the Sharks back in. Earlier, Aldinga battled through 45 overs before being bowled out for just 88. Myponga-Sellicks’ Vince Nizzola continued his excellent season with figures of 4/15 from 12 overs. Nizzola now has 22 wickets in 2022/23. Other wicket takers for the home side were James Paterson (2/21), Ryan Haverty (1/3) and Kobe Dooley (1/16).

In a battle of two top-four teams, Noarlunga posted a competitive day one total of 4/209 from their 70 overs against McLaren Districts at Old Noarlunga. The Shoes got off to an excellent start with Travis Bronstein and David Scarff adding 91 runs for the first wicket before Scarff went for 50 from 122 balls (4 x 4’s). Bronstein was then joined by Jason Scarff in a second wicket union worth 58 runs until the Noarlunga captain was dismissed for 38 from 65 balls (5 x 4’s). 17 year-old Bronstein continued on to his highest ‘A’ grade score with an undefeated 85 from 193 balls (4 x 4’s), as he batted throughout the innings. Keith Schofield was the Crushers main wicket taker with 2/54 from 17 overs.

Top-of-the-ladder Goolwa made 8/158 from their 70 overs against Willunga in a tough day of Cricket at Goolwa. Andy Evans was the best of the Magpies batsmen with 56 before being run out. Luke Giddings (23), Jesse Consalvo (18) and Josh Jones (17 not out) also made handy contributions for the home side. Extras (34) also aided Goolwa in posting a competitive total. Sean Goodes (2/26), Luke Harding (2/39) and Joe Last (2/40) were the leading wicket takers for the Demons. Special mention should be made of Sean McIvor who bowled a marathon 21 overs (11 maidens) to finish with 0/26.

The matches at Encounter Bay (Encounter Bay v Port Elliot) and Mount Compass (Mount Compass v Yankalilla) were unable to commence due to inclement weather on Thursday and Friday. These matches will be played as one-day games on Saturday 11 February.
