Mudlarks on the move in GSFL Women's Football

Myponga-Sellicks moved up to fourth spot on the ladder following their 18-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 13 action in the Great Southern Football League ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at Myponga last Friday night. The game was a tight and low scoring affair with the sides locked at 2.4 (16) apiece at the last change. The Mudlarks finished strongly, kicking three unanswered goals in the final term, to win 5.4 (34) to 2.4 (16). Sarah Stanbury kicked two goals for Myponga-Sellicks, while their best players included Grace Deacon, Kimberley Gilbert, Nari Wright, Carla Humphrys and Brianah Kennewell. Best players for the Magpies were Jessica Bailey, Lilli Mitchell, Brooke Goslett, Lily Jenke, Ellie Fry and Rachel Wood.


Yankalilla/Encounter Bay won their sixth game of the season after defeating Victor Harbor by 15 points. The Stingrays’ victory was set up by a strong first term that saw them lead by 24 points at quarter time. To their credit, Victor Harbor battled hard to outscore Yankalilla/Encounter Bay for the final three quarters, before the Stingrays won 6.5 (41) to 4.2 (26). Tyler Rigney Garrett was named best for Yankalilla/Encounter Bay with two goals and she was well supported by Kate Sanders, Tanya Littlely, Dani Brown, Halle James and Jemima Althorp. Olivia Nobbs, Tyla Millard, Danika Millard, Halle Crowe, Layla Woods and Lauren Cousins were named best players for the ‘Roos.


Willunga remained undefeated after winning the Grand Final rematch against McLaren Districts by 13 points. McLaren Districts started well to lead by 12 points at quarter time, before the Demons hit back with a four goal to one second term to take a six-point lead at halftime. The margin was still six points in favour of Willunga at the last change, before they kicked the only goal of the last quarter to win 6.5 (41) to 4.4 (28). Jessica Harris and Tamara Page kicked two goals apiece for the Demons, while Abby Woodward also kicked two goals for the Eagles. Bella Rigby, Jodie Hunt, Emma Leask, Harris, Sarah Tillman and Cleo Guilfoyle were named best for Willunga, while McLaren Districts was best served by Caitlin Ross, Alycia Hepburn, Zahli Grund, Kiera Harvey, Ally Bailey and Krystal Boileau.
