Mudlarks with important win in Great Southern Football

Reigning premiers Myponga-Sellicks moved a game clear in the top-five after an important 16-point win at Encounter Bay during round 15 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) yesterday. The Mudlarks trailed by 10 points at the final change, before kicking four unanswered goals in the last quarter to win 12.8 (80) to 9.10 (64). Jayden Scott (4), Mitch Wilkins (3) and Darren Shillabeer (2) were the leading goalkickers for the Mudlarks, while Ben Davis and Tyson Neale kicked two goals each for the Bays. Wilkins was named best for Myponga-Sellicks and he received good support from Hayden Sampson, Scott, Liam Partridge, Scott Hunt and Anthony Kempster. Best for Encounter Bay included Callum Tonkin, James Brown, Jackson Savage, Tyler Baldock, Adam Hurrell and Tate Walker.


McLaren Districts wrapped up the double chance after a convincing 83-point win at Strathalbyn. Connor Fitt kicked five goals for the Eagles as they won 19.8 (122) to 6.3 (39). Veteran Brett Ellis was named best-on-ground for McLaren Districts with support from Archie Rutt, Brodie Long, Matthew Raitt, Joel Vandeleur and Thomas Mills. The Roosters’ best were Declan Gladigau, Daniel Pegler, Jake Stafford, Liam Hutchinson (3 goals), Thomas Welk and Zac Edwards.


Yankalilla won their fifth game of the season after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by 74 points. The win was set up by a powerful first half from the Tigers which saw them lead by 63 points at halftime, before going on to win 20.11 (131) to 8.9 (57). ‘Yank’ had 11 different goalkickers with Joel Kay leading the way with four goals, while Kai Iwao kicked three goals for the Magpies. Yankalilla’s best players were Travis Bartlett, Jack Fitzgerald, Patrick Chay, Oliver Carpenter, Sam Crawford and Michael Thompson. The Magpies were best served by Jye Bottroff, Jett Reid, Finn Hayden, Levi Baillie, Riley Davis and Iwao.



Victor Harbor won their second game in a row after defeating Mt Compass by 76 points. The ‘Roos led by 58 points at halftime, before kicking a further nine goals to six in the second half to win 22.11 (143) to 9.13 (67). ‘Victor’ had 10 different goalkickers including Harry Vincent (4), Sam Basham (3), Jackson Elmes (3) and Ben Heaslip (3). Tom Pinyon kicked three goals for Mt Compass. Heaslip continued his excellent season with another best-on-ground performance for Victor Harbor, and he received good support from Jaid Cooper, Clayton Mesecke, Jaidan Kappler, Sam Overall and Rhys Bartram. Best for the Bulldogs included Nathan Schulz, Klaus Simons, Lochie Nash, Leo Turner, Adam Hunter and Harley Peters. 


Willunga won their 12th game in a row after a comprehensive 108-point win at home against Langhorne Creek yesterday. Daniel Nobes kicked eight goals for the Demons to fire them to a 23.10 (148) to 5.10 (40) triumph. Dylan Draper (5), Sam Renney (4) and Harry Saunders (3) were the other multiple goalkickers for Willunga. Demons skipper Sam Renney was named best for Willunga with support from Nathan Stark, Liam Nye, Jake Shirvington and Daniel Lee. Langhorne Creek’s best players included Tom Derham, Matt Dominish, Darcy Clifford, William Bruce, Caleb Howell and Jack Hall.
