Reigning premiers Myponga-Sellicks confirmed their finals spot after a comprehensive 120-point win over Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 16 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Myponga today. The Mudlarks won every quarter on their way to a 24.14 (158) to 5.8 (38) victory. Darren Shillabeer (6) and Jayden Scott (5) were the leading goalkickers for the winners, while Carter Norman (3) and Jayden Davis (2) were the goalkickers for the Magpies. Best players for Myponga-Sellicks included Hayden Sampson, Mitchell Wilkins, Anthony Kempster, Scott Hunt, Jake Spinks and Seth Deacon. The Magpies’ best were Fred Nissen, Riley Davis, Levi Baillie, Jayden Davis, Finn Hayden and Jye Bottroff.
Willunga won their 13th game on the trot after travelling to Mt Compass and coming away with a 72-point win. Mt Compass started well to lead by six points at quarter time, before Willunga came out firing in the second quarter, kicking nine goals to one, to lead by 42 points at halftime. A further nine goals to four in the second half saw the Demons win 21.8 (134) to 9.8 (62). Dylan Draper kicked 10 goals in a best-on-ground display for Willunga, while Daniel Bass slotted four majors. Meanwhile, Lochie Nash kicked three goals for the Bulldogs. Joining Draper in the best players for Willunga were Nathan Stark, Sam Renney, Daniel Lee, Bass and Sean Beath. Mt Compass was best served by Klaus Simons, Nash, Tom Vitkunas, Nathan Schulz, Hugh Daniell and Nathan Hicks.
McLaren Districts wrapped up the double chance following their 35-point win at home against Yankalilla. The game was tight for the first three quarters as McLaren Districts turned for home with a slender three-point lead. An upset was on the cards, before the Eagles kicked seven goals to two in the final stanza to win 17.17 (119) to 13.6 (84). Codey Ellison was best-on-ground for McLaren Districts with four goals and he was well supported by Brett Ellis, Joel Vandeleur, Matthew Raitt, Kaine Hopkins and Brodie Long. Best players for Yankalilla included Joseph Tyllis, Karlson Kantilla (4 goals), Will Hogben, Mackenzie Ryan, Oliver Carpenter and Travis Bartlett.
Victor Harbor kept their minor premiership hopes alive ahead of their top-of-the table clash with Willunga next week after defeating Strathalbyn by 140 points today. Sam Basham (6) and Zac Dowling (4) were the leading goalkickers for Victor Harbor as 13 ‘Roos got on the goalkicking list in their 25.19 (169) to 4.5 (29) victory. Zachary Dowling, Jaidan Kappler, Benjamin Heaslip, Heath Treloar, Sam Overall and Ryan Fletcher were named best for the ‘Roos, while best for the Roosters included James Scott, Ashley Weckert, Zac Edwards, Thomas Welk and Reuben Stutley.
Encounter Bay won their 10th game of the season with a 67-point win at Langhorne Creek today. The Bays led by 34 points at halftime, before kicking a further six goals to one in the second half to win 16.13 (109) to 5.12 (42). Tyson Neale (4) and Nick Marshall (3) were the leading goalkickers for Encounter Bay, while Mitch Cleggett kicked two majors for the Hawks. Marcus Lippett, Callum Tonkin, Ambrose Willoughby, Tate Walker, Peter Spurling and Adam Hurrell were named best for the Bays, while Darcy Clifford, Matt Dominish, Jake Yard, Jackson Dalitz, Heath McDougall and Mitch Cleggett were named best for Langhorne Creek.
