Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes has unveiled a mural at Goolwa Museum and History Centre.

The Goolwa Branch of the National Trust of South Australia held an open day at the Centre as part of the state’s 2024 History Festival.

Local artist Chad Spencer, created the mural, supported by a $1,200 Creative Communities Grant from the council.

It depicts the historic 1854 horse-drawn tram that used to link Goolwa and Port Elliot.

The centre also holds a life-size replica of the tram.

Located in Porter Street, the Goolwa Museum and History Centre was built in the 1870s as a Blacksmiths shop.

It displays the history of Goolwa, Currency Creek and Hindmarsh Island from pre European settlement to the present with permanent and changing exhibitions.
