The Adelaide Hills Chamber Players will kick off a series of six concerts at Goolwa’s Centenary Hall on Saturday 24 January.

The concerts will comprise three performances in each half of the year forming their summer and winter series.

The first, this Saturday at 4pm, will be a string orchestra performance of The Spirit of Romanticism.

Sharon Grigoryan will lead this concert from the cello desk and will also play the solo part in pieces by Fauré and Tchaikovsky.

The centrepiece of the program is the magnificent song cycle of Gustav Mahler, sung by mezzo soprano Elizabeth Campbell, who performs with Opera Australia, Victorian Opera and Capital City Symphony Orchestras all over Australia.

The second concert, Opera Highlights: Italy through Pagliacci, will be on Saturday 31 January at 6pm.

Under the musical leadership of international baritone Mario Bellanova, the finest South Australian singers present memorable moments of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s timeless masterpiece.

It features Naomi Hede as Nedda, Branko Lovrinov as Canio, David Visentin as Arlecchino and Jeremy Tatchell as Silvio.

The final concert of the summer series will be held on Sunday 14 February at 6pm. The new professional Chamber Choir, conducted by Jonathan Bligh, will reprise The Spirit of Romanticism with music by Saint Saëns, Fauré, Bruckner and others, offering music of unmistakeable expressiveness and great beauty from the 19th century Romantic Era.
