NAIDOC Week on the Fleurieu

For Our Elders is the theme of NAIDOC Week 2023, recognising the important role they play across every generation in communities and families


Eastern Fleurieu School R-6 Campus in Strathalbyn will kick off NAIDOC Week celebrations on 3 July.


The community is invited to enjoy free Bush Tucker samples by the school’s 7-12 students.


The New Journey Coffee Van will be on site from 8am and the event will run from 9am to 10am.


It will include a Welcome to Country by Mandy Brown; a Smoking Ceremony with Kyle Booth; and Storytelling with David Booth.


Nunga Screen 2023 will be in Goolwa on Wednesday 5 July, at Centenary Hall from 6pm to 7.45pm.


This free annual event shares and celebrates First Nations culture, stories and language through film, touring regional SA from big screen cinemas to remote communities.


For more than 10 years Nunga Screen has provided the opportunity for emerging and established First Nations film makers to showcase their films. Book tickets online


A free community barbecue will be held at Ratalang Basham's Beach Conservation Park, in Port Elliot, on Sunday 9 July from 10am to 2pm.


All are welcome to attend the community event, which will feature cultural dancing, art, stories and kids' activities, as well as a van selling coffee and doughnuts.


Victor Harbor will host a NAIDOC March on Thursday 6 July, travelling from Grosvenor Gardens to Soldiers Memorial Gardens via Ocean Street.


Rolling road closures will take place between 10am and 11am along the following roads:

  • Coral Street, from Stuart Street to Ocean Street.
  • Ocean Street, from Coral Street to Albert Place.
  • Albert Place, from Ocean Street to Railway Terrace.


Southern Deadly fun run will take place in Rotary Park, Christies Beach on Sunday 2 July, followed by a community barbecue. Registration is from 9.30am, with a Welcome to Country at 10am.


A march from Market Place Square, in Christies Beach, will lead to a family fun day at Rotary Park on Wednesday 5 July.


Hosted by the City of Onkaparinga and the Neporendi Aboriginal Forum Inc, it will run from 10am to 2pm and will include dance, music, art, food and cultural activities
