National Boys Choir visits Victor Harbor

The National Boys Choir of Australia will perform at Newland Church in Victor Harbor on September 26.

The choir is famous for the Qantas I Still Call Australia Home television commercials and has also performed with Andre Rieu and at Carols by Candlelight.

They last toured South Australia in 2008 and this year’s tour is the first for the choir’s new co-Artistic Director, Andrew Bainbridge.

Andrew is only the fourth Director since the choir was founded in 1964. He is the former musical director of the Tasmanian Youth Choirs and has enjoyed three years as principal guest organist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The National Boys Choir of Australia’s tour repertoire encompasses a broad range of styles, from sacred music by Flor Peeters and Choir Patron John Rutter; music inspired by cats from composers Rossini, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Armstrong Gibbs; and newly arranged selection from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

They also throw in plenty of well-known folk songs and crowd favourites such as I Still Call Australia Home and enjoy informal interaction with the audience.

The concert starts at 7pm and tickets from $15-$18 will be available at the door. Newland Church is at 28 Victoria Street, in Victor Harbor.

The choir will also perform in Tanunda, Adelaide and Bordertown, with a special pop-up performance at The Art Gallery of South Australia at 11am on September 26.
