Neighbourhood Watch offers community safety info

Neighbourhood Watch will hold a community information session at the Goolwa Shopping Centre tomorrow, Thursday 22 June from 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to go along and have a chat with volunteers and pick up lots of free information on safety and security.

The group has warned that firewood thieves are active across the region; they cut fencing, risk injury to stock and damage property-  often working in the dark.

“They sell stolen firewood cheaply through online marketplaces and local social media groups.”

Neighbourhood Watch advises to store firewood in a secure place to reduce the possibility of theft and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you have any information about possible stolen firewood.

The group says in the past during winter, thieves impersonating removalists or tradies have stolen contents from unoccupied holiday homes in the area.

“Many holiday home occupants place bins out to be collected on rubbish days but they don’t get placed back onto their properties.

“If you have a holiday home near you, can you please put the bins either behind a fence or alongside the home.

“This helps to prevent homes from appearing unoccupied thereby preventing burglaries and keeps our community safer.”
