Effectively networking to boost your business was the theme for the latest Women in Business Regional Network dinner in Victor Harbor.
The guest speaker was Nan Berrett of Word Solutions, a self-confessed introvert from the Clare Valley, who has built her successful business over the past 10 years through nothing but networking.
Nan has been touring a number of the network’s chapters sharing her networking tips, encouraging women to work on their elevator pitch, build a contact and email list, and to update and make better use of online tools.
One of her more innovative methods to network, particularly during the current pandemic, was through a virtual coffee, where she could offer an online meeting for 15 minutes to explore opportunities with contacts.
She says recent issues with some social media platforms also highlight the need to ensure contact lists are regularly downloaded and that email lists are kept separate from third-party owned platforms to provide security and peace of mind.
Timely follow up and good record-keeping of contacts, including the common ground you might have, or something memorable, are also important.
The network was also pleased to celebrate the news that several members are among the finalists for the Business Victor Harbor Excellence Awards, including some who had participated in a recent network workshop, and that Nan Berrett was also a finalist in the SA Woman Awards in the Regional category.
This was the final Victor Harbor event for the network for 2021. The program for 2022 is being drafted and news on the new year’s events will be out soon.
Nan Berrett will again be the guest speaker at the final McLaren Vale event for 2021 - a lunch on Wednesday 17 November at the Smiling Samoyed Brewery.
The latest McLaren Vale Network event was a dinner at Mick O’Shea’s Hotel in Hackham.
The guest speaker was Vasso Fessas from The Connected Leadership Co, who took the group through a workshop format to look at their business values.
The Women in Business Regional Network is open to business owners, managers, staff and those dreaming of owning their own business. You don’t have to be a member to attend events, but bookings are essential via Eventbrite.com.au.
