Alexandrina residents have been invited to have their say on the council’s draft Cats By-Law, with community consultation starting this week.
The by-law concerns the management and control of cats within the Alexandrina region.
The council says the proposed by-law has been developed to promote responsible cat ownership, protect wildlife, and reduce public nuisance caused by cats.
It puts a limit on cat numbers and covers nuisance, effective confinement, registration and council exemptions.
“The aim of the Cats By-Law is to promote responsible pet ownership, increase the welfare of cats, and protect the community and the environment from nuisance cats.
“The draft Cats By-Law seeks to balance the needs of pet owners and the broader community, where people and pets can safely co-exist within the community.”
Community consultation will be open until 5pm on Monday 13 June.
