The new Victor Harbor Causeway is due to be opened at 11am on Wednesday 22 December.
Construction on the $36.5M bridge commenced in March with the Department of Infrastructure and Planning saying at the time that they expected the construction to be finished by late this year.
The old causeway is due to decommissioned early next year with most of the structure removed and two platforms left at either end.
Victor Harbor’s City Band will be playing at the official opening which will also be supported by local community groups.
With a state election due in March it is likely that the opening will be attended by senior members of the government including Infrastructure Minister Corey Wingard and Premier Steven Marshall.
The tracks for the historic horse drawn tram are no longer attached to the old structure and are being rerouted to the new causeway.
The government has been preparing a new Granite Island Visitor Experience Plan but is yet to release the details.
Earlier this year the public were asked for their suggestions to “make the island a more desirable destination for visitors and community year-round.”
