Shane Grocke has been elected as the new representative of Light Ward in the District Council of Yankalilla.

A vacancy was triggered by the resignation of Cr Glen Rowlands but a by-election was not required as Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) advised it could be filled through a countback process of the unsuccessful candidates in the July by-election.

That election saw Karin Hatch elected to the council; Gavin Denton and Shane Grocke were the unsuccessful candidates.

Mr Grocke has been a resident of Normanville since 2019 and is inaugural chair of the Yankalilla Normanville Progress Association.

A photographer who has also run an IT company, he has served on Yankalilla Area School governing council and facilitated the Yankalilla Community Forum on Facebook.

The District Council of Yankalilla has thanked Councillor Glen Rowlands for his ten years of service as a Light Ward Councillor, CEO Nathan Cunningham wishing him all the best in his future endeavours.
