New planning system arrives

South Australia’s new planning system comes into effect for local councils from tomorrow Friday 19 March.

Under the new system all development approvals in the Alexandrina and Yankalilla council areas will be dealt with by the Fleurieu Regional Assessment Panel (FRAP).

Councils will continue to administer development approvals on their behalf.

The Alexandrina Council is also advising that from Friday all Development Applications for the region will be submitted online via the PlanSA portal.

Hard copies of relevant information can still be submitted via the council’s offices at Goolwa and Strathalbyn, but all correspondence about applications will be sent electronically, where ever possible .

The progress of applications will be able to be tracked via the online portal.

You can also search the development application register to see development proposals in your area.

If residents are unsure whether their plans need development approval, they can use the Approval Wizard at plan.sa.gov.au.

The Wizard will advise whether approval is needed for things such as the installation of sheds, carports or solar panels and direct users to the first step of lodging an application.
