The state government has announced construction of a new school in Aldinga will start this year.

Expected to open for term 1 in 2022, the school will be built on 14 hectares of land bordered by Quinliven and Port Roads and will accommodate up to 1675 students.

It will reserve 100 places for students with a disability and include a 75 place children's centre, making it a B-12, or birth to year 12, school.

Plans include an entrepreneurial hub with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics studies, as well as a 300-seat performing arts centre, an open gymnasium and sporting fields.

The design incorporates ecologically sustainable development principles that meet a 5-green star rating and will offer a modern and contemporary learning environment with strong connections between internal and external learning spaces.

The school will allow community use, creating an inclusive and accessible hub, according to Education Minister John Gardner.

“Families will be pleased to have a state-of-the-art school in their local area by 2022.“

It will be located next to the Aldinga Sports Park and the City of Onkaparinga has welcomed, “a terrific opportunity to integrate planning between the two facilities to achieve a sports and community hub for Aldinga.”

Council has taken into account the school’s design principles in developing its draft Aldinga Framework Plan.

A similar school will be built in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, at Angle Vale. The government expects the construction phase of both schools to create 900 jobs.

It will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership project, with TESA Education awarded the contract to construct and maintain the new school.
