The aptly named Dylan Beach has been appointed the next Fleurieu Peninsula regional tourism manager.
He will take up the position on 2 August, after finishing up in his role as tourism manager for Zoos SA.
Dylan is very familiar with the Fleurieu; he grew up in Middleton and has lived in Port Elliot and Victor Harbor.
“My strongest memories are my days surfing and swimming between Knights Beach, Horseshoe Bay and Middleton,” he says.
While he still enjoys the water, Dylan also appreciates what the rest of the Fleurieu has to offer – camping and hiking through the Deep Creek Conservation Park and exploring wineries in McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek with his partner Emma.
“For me though, the gel that brings all these memories and experiences together are the communities throughout the Fleurieu.
“No matter where I am located within the region, there is a real sense of community and also a sense of pride, which I think is really special.”
Dylan has previously managed local events and worked for a time with Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism some years ago.
He believes there has been a growing awareness of the Fleurieu, not only from interstate and international visitors, but among South Australians.
“What the region has to offer in landscapes, nature, wildlife, food and wine is some of the best in the world, and it's fantastic to see people within the region developing world class tourism experiences and showcasing it sustainably.”
Dylan has a broad background in tourism, events and marketing and is interested in using technology to enhance the visitor experience.
He says he will bring an innovative and collaborative approach to the job.
“As Fleurieu Peninsula Regional Tourism Manager, I'm extremely grateful and looking forward to have the opportunity to give back to the region that has provided me so much.”
Acting tourism manager Peter Cahalan’s term finishes on 24 August, so Dylan will enjoy an intensive handover period, with the opportunity to get around the region and meet as many stakeholders as possible.
