Victor Harbor’s long awaited new Visitor Centre is finally due to open on Wednesday 14 December.
Housed in the historic Railway Goods Shed on Railway Terrace, the Visitor Centre will operate alongside the SA Whale Centre.
The building was closed for renovation in December 2020, with the Whale Centre staff operating from the Coral Street art space during the last two whale seasons.
The Visitor information service joined it there in February 2021, when the council closed its previous office located at the Victor Harbor causeway.
The new Visitor Centre was originally due to open in June 2021, but delays to the building upgrade blew out by more than 18 months.
The council has described the delays as being due to, “a number of unforeseen complexities”.
“Over the past two years, significant renovations have been undertaken on the building to ensure it can offer a modern experience that caters to the needs of Victor Harbor’s 1.2 million annual visitors.”
“Many cherished heritage features of the 158 year old building have been retained, including its entrance archways and smoke-tainted walls.”
The Visitor Centre is scheduled to open at 12noon on Wednesday.
It will then open daily from 10am to 4pm, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day.
