New Year's Eve 2024 wrap-upNew Year's Eve Celebrations | Victor Harbor City Council

Communities across the Fleurieu Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and South Australia celebrated the arrival of 2025 with joy and enthusiasm, marking the occasion with fireworks, gatherings, and family-friendly events. Popular spots like Victor Harbor, Port Elliot, and Penneshaw buzzed with activity, as residents and visitors came together to enjoy the holiday spirit in true coastal style.

South Australia Police (SAPOL) reported satisfaction with the overall behaviour of crowds throughout the region and the state. Alongside local festivities, key locations such as Adelaide’s CBD, Glenelg, Semaphore, and Brighton also saw thousands of revellers. Notably, Elder Park hosted a major city celebration, while Adelaide Oval welcomed over 40,000 fans for the Big Bash League cricket match.

From the bustling festivities in Victor Harbor to quieter gatherings on Kangaroo Island, locals and visitors alike embraced the chance to connect with loved ones and ring in the new year in picturesque settings. Across the state, SAPOL maintained a strong presence, emphasising zero tolerance for antisocial behaviour and ensuring the safety of all.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Yvette Clark commended the community for its positive spirit. “It was wonderful to see people across the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island embracing the chance to celebrate with family and friends while enjoying the stunning backdrops these areas have to offer,” she said.

“The majority of revellers were keen to enjoy the night responsibly, with only a small number engaging in unsafe or illegal activity.”

SAPOL also acknowledged the hard work of police officers and emergency service workers who ensured the safety of communities statewide. “Their efforts make it possible for everyone to enjoy such occasions in peace,” Assistant Commissioner Clark added.

This year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations highlighted the vibrant culture of South Australia’s southern coastal regions while reinforcing the importance of community, safety, and respect.
