The end of June will see the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority issue new kerbside collection calendars for the whole district.
The 2020/21 calendars have been redesigned with council-specific mapping and a reduced number of pages, which is both better for the environment and more cost efficient.
There has been a major change to collection zones within the City of Victor Harbor, which have been reduced form four to only two.
They will be orange Zone A and grey Zone B. For most areas there will be no change to collection days, boundaries or cycles. However, rural areas of Hindmarsh Valley and Spring Valley will move into Zone A.
This means properties in this area will get a bonus collection of waste to landfill and recycling on 6 July, to transition to the Zone A collection cycle from Monday, 13 July.
In addition to the printed calendar, the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority has a street search tool that can be used to check which bin is being collected. This tool will be updated with the 2020/21 collection schedule on 30 June 2020.
The City of Victor Harbor will continue its fortnightly kerbside waste collection schedule after declaring it a success.
The council introduced fortnightly collection with an aim of reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill, and to increase the rate of recycling and resource recovery.
It has published results provided by the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority from the first six months of the new waste management system.
“In this period, waste to landfill decreased by 27 per cent, and recyclables and green waste increased by 33 per cent and 59 per cent respectively.
“Across the region, the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority reports a 29 per cent reduction in waste to landfill, and 58 per cent diversion rate.”
The new look kerbside waste collection calendars should hit letterboxes within this week.
