Australia voted NO in the national referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, held on 14 October and local voting was in line with the national result.
The referendum asked voters to answer Yes or No to a single question.
“A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
Do you approve this proposed alteration?”
Voting in the federal electorate of Mayo matched the national average of 60 per cent No to 40 per cent Yes.
Mayo covers the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, as well as Mount Barker and the Adelaide Hills.
Overall South Australia recorded the second strongest No vote in the country, at 65 percent to 35 per cent.
Only 19 of the 88 polling places in Mayo recorded a majority Yes vote, including booths in Aldinga Beach and Willunga on the Fleurieu; the others in the Hills and Mount Barker.
Full details of the referendum results for Mayo and each state and territory can be viewed on the Australian Electoral Commission website.
