No joy for Fleurieu towns in Ag Town comp

The Fleurieu has missed out on the finals of the Agricultural Town of the Year awards, with the five finalists announced last week.

Willunga, McLaren Vale, Mount Compass, Langhorne Creek and Strathalbyn were among the 54 South Australian towns nominated by the public, which may have stretched the local vote too thin.

The five towns up for the gong are Orroroo and Crystal Brook in the Yorke and Mid North district, Kapunda in the Barossa, Light and Lower Light district, and Mypolonga and Waikerie in the Murray River and Mallee district.

The Eyre Peninsula town of Kimba won the 2021 award.

Crystal Brook and Waikerie are in the running for the first time, while Orroroo, Mypolonga and Kapunda are repeat finalists.

The winner will be decided by a panel of independent judges, who will visit each of the five finalist towns.

The 2022 Agricultural Town of the Year is administered by Solstice Media, which will announce the winning town on Friday 4 November at its Regional Showcase celebration.
