Noarlunga confirm finals spot in the Southern Football League

Noarlunga confirmed their spot in the Southern Football League (SFL) finals after a 30-point win over Cove at Old Noarlunga yesterday. The home side led by six points at quarter time and extended their lead out to 15 points by halftime. The Shoes came out firing in the third term, as they piled on five goals to zero, to take an unassailable 47-point lead to the last change. To the Cobras credit, they outscored the home side three goals to one in the final term, before Noarlunga won 12.10 (82) to 6.16 (52). Vic Robertson provided an excellent target up forward for the Shoes as he slotted six majors while Nathan Schulz chipped in with two goals. Scott Grieve kicked three goals for Cove. Jake Anderson, Schulz, Bailey Snelling, Callum Gaspari and Joel Brown were named best for the Shoes. Damian Roach, Grieve, Ryan Muldoon, Michael Galley and Bailey Nicholas were the best players for Cove.


Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill remained undefeated with a comprehensive 57-point win against third-placed Happy Valley. The Falcons led by 33 points at halftime and kicked a further seven goals to four in the second half to win 14.15 (99) to 6.6 (42). Daniel Butcher kicked five goals for ‘Flaggies’ and he was supported by Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Beenham and Ryan Mountford who each kicked two goals. Ben Geytenbeek kicked two goals for the Vikings. Best for Flagstaff Hill were Brayden Heyward-Ferors, Johnson, Huw Channing, Brad Kirk and Mackenzie Short. Happy Valley was best served by Ben Ryan, Liam Hamilton, Liam O’Connor, Henry Kerrison and Scott Rademacher.


Morphett Vale have given themselves a shot at the double chance after a percentage-boosting 97-point win against Aldinga at Morphett Vale. The win sets up a huge game next week as Morphett Vale face off with Happy Valley for third spot. Morphett Vale set up their big win with a powerful 10-goal first term as they led by 48 points at quarter time. The Emus were on fire but could only manage an inaccurate 4.11 in the second term as they extended their lead out to 75 points at the long break. A further eight goals to six in the second half saw Morphett Vale win 22.28 (160) to 9.9 (63). The Emus had 11 different goalkickers with Daniel Noble (5), Steven Byrne (3) and Aiden Baker (3) leading the way. Timmy Sumner kicked four goals for the Sharks while Zach Young kicked three. For the third time this season Bodie Sowter was named best for Morphett Vale and he was well supported by Connor Lock, David Sampson, Byrne and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Byron Sumner, Timmy Sumner and Angus Stangewitz were among the best players for Aldinga.


Christies Beach finally got back on the park after a four-week break and they made the most of it with a thumping 113-point win over local rival Port Noarlunga. The Saints led by 36 points at quarter time, 81 points at halftime and 110 points at the final change before running out winners 26.9 (165) to 7.10 (52). ‘Christies’ had 11 different goalkickers including best-on-ground Blake Carter who kicked eight goals while Jasper Roads kicked four and Nathan Stock three for the winners. Clinton Calyun and Joseph Butterworth each kicked two goals for the Cockle Divers. Andrew Bachmann, Josh Semmens, Bailey Short and Jonty Murphy joined Carter in the best for Christies Beach while for Port Noarlunga, Jordan Zeitz, Sam Zeitz and James Ledgard were among their best players.
