Noarlunga remain undefeated as they advance to the SFL Grand Final

Second Semi-Final (Noarlunga v Flagstaff Hill)

Noarlunga have continued their undefeated season and will line up in the Southern Football League Grand Final on September 21 following a comprehensive 44-point victory over three-time reigning premier Flagstaff Hill in the Second Semi-Final at Port Noarlunga on Saturday. The Shoes have been untouchable this season and it seems that it will take a minor miracle for them to get knocked off for the flag this year. Flagstaff Hill had been in excellent recent form and came into the game full of confidence on the back of a 60-point Qualifying Final victory over Christies Beach last week.

After a tight opening term which saw Noarlunga lead by just three points at the first break, the game opened up in the second term as the Shoes kicked four goals to two to extend their margin out to a handy 17 points at half-time. Flagstaff Hill were hanging on grimly but Noarlunga were not going to be denied and pulled away kicking 6.14 to 3.5 in the second half to win 12.21 (93) to 7.7 (49). With 19 more scoring shots, the margin could have been much bigger for Noarlunga but they’d be very happy with the win after being upset in the Preliminary Final last season. Vic Robertson kicked four goals and Terry Milera three for Noarlunga while Miles Sumner and Ryan Mountford each kicked two goals for Flagstaff Hill. Nathan Schulz contimued his outstanding season with a best on ground display for Noarlunga and he was supported by Danny Irvine, Bailey Snelling, Josh Thewlis and Robertson. Bradley Kirk, David Kearsley, Mitchell Fazekas, Daniel Webb and Bradley Patterson were best for the Falcons.

First Semi-Final (Christies Beach v Port Noarlunga)

Christies Beach defeated Port Noarlunga by 17 points in the First Semi-Final to advance to Saturday’s Preliminary Final where they’ll face Flagstaff Hill for a place in the 2019 Southern Football League Grand Final. Christies started well to lead by 13 points at the first break. The Saints extended their lead ou to 18 points at half-time before an even third term saw them turn for home with a 14-point buffer. The Cockle Divers were right in the game and had their chances but could only put 1.4 on the board to Christies 2.1 in the final quarter as the final scores ended up in The Saints’ favour 13.6 (84) to 9.13 (67).

Ben Powell kicked four and Nathan Stock kicked three goals for Christies Beach while Jake Veide kicked three and Ryan Kelly two goals for Port Noarlunga. Josiah Sheppard, Powell and Rhys Mundy were best for the Saints with Veide, Kelly and Luke Irving being named best for Port Noarlunga.
