Onkaparinga Mayor stands aside to focus on state election campaignErin Thompson and Deputy Mayor of Onkaparinga, Marion Themeliotis

Onkaparinga Mayor Erin Thompson is standing aside from her position so she can “fully focus” on her campaign to win a seat in the state parliament.

Ms Thompson has pre-selected as the Labor candidate in the seat of Davenport which encompasses areas such as Aberfoyle Park, Bedford Park and Flagstaff Hill.

In a social media post Ms Thompson said, “I’ll be leaving you in the very capable hands of our fantastic Deputy Mayor Marion Themeliotis."

“So, rest assured, there is an Acting Mayor handling council affairs during this period.”

Ms Thompson was announced as the Labor candidate in October 2021.

The seat is currently held by Liberal backbencher Steve Murray with a very healthy margin of 9.5%.

At the time of preselection Ms Thompson said while she loved being Mayor of Onkaparinga there were other issues, such as the health and education systems that she wanted to help try and improve.

The state election will be held on 19 March.
