Police were out in force over the Easter long weekend for Operation Safe Holidays Easter.

Over 3,200 motorists were tested across the Adelaide Hills and Southern Fleurieu region over the four days, and a number of very disappointing results prove the message is still not getting through to some drivers.

There were 13 motorists detected drink driving including the following high range blood alcohol readings –

  • A 37-year-old man from Semaphore produced a reading of 0.149 at Yankalilla
  • A 52-year-old woman from Port Elliot produced a reading of 0.151 at Goolwa South Australian Police
  • A 25-year-old woman from Strathalbyn produced a reading of 0.154 at Bridgewater

In addition, three drivers tested positive to drugs, 18 drivers were detected speeding, including excessive speeds of 132km/h in a 100km/h speed zone and 137km/h in a 100km/h speed zone recorded at Gumeracha, and 95km/h in a 50km/h speed zone at Strathalbyn.

Sadly, a 39-year-old Nairne man lost his life and a 28-year-old Brukunga man was seriously injured as a result of a crash at Brukunga at 5.30pm on Monday 5 April.

SAPOL has a zero tolerance approach to drivers who choose to endanger the lives of others and Hills Fleurieu Police will continue to keep roads safe and hold irresponsible drivers accountable for their selfish choices.
