Overall on fire for the Bays in Great Southern Cricket

A big Matt Overall century fired top-of-the-ladder Encounter Bay to a huge first innings total of 6/394 on day one of their clash with Mount Compass at Burgess Oval during round five action in the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. Overall had a day out as he finished with 189 not out (23 x 4's, 6 x 6's), while veteran Cam Lintern came up agonisingly short of the magical ton with 95 (11 x 4's, 3 x 6's). The partnership between Overall and Lintern was worth a whopping 197 runs. Luke Crichton (29), Sam Hoffmann (29) and Luke Duffill (23) also made handy contributions to the Bays big total.

Noarlunga posted a competitive total of 7/208 on day one of their clash with Yankalilla. After being sent in to bat by the home side, the Shoes innings was set up by a 113-run second wicket stand between Travis Bronstein and Anthony Tucker. Tucker was dismissed for 61 (6 x 4’s), while Bronstein batted through the innings, finishing on 87 not out (6 x 4’s). Zander Trezise (21) also made a handy contribution in a 41-run stand with Bronstein. Aaron Smith (3/51), Luke Bartlett (2/42), Ashley Madden (1/12) and Scott Wilson (1/27) were the wicket takers for the Tigers.

Port Elliot are in a good position to continue their undefeated start to the season after making 6/218 on day one of their clash with Myponga-Sellicks at Myponga. The total was set up by an excellent third wicket partnership between Ethan Spriggs and skipper Joel Harris. Spriggs opened the batting and was the ‘rock’ of the innings with a patient 70 from 183 balls (4 x 4’s), while Harris finished on 88 not out from 138 balls (1 x 4, 1 x 6). Port Elliot hit just eight boundaries for the day on the slow outfield so it will be a tough chase for the Mudlarks. Vinnie Nizzola (4/50) and Ryan Haverty (2/38) were the wicket takers for Myponga-Sellicks.

McLaren Districts had a good first day in their important round five clash at Willunga on Saturday. The Crushers ended the day on 0/19 (Jim Ryan 11 not out, Daniel Bruce 6 not out) in reply to the Demons first innings total of 137. Earlier, Willunga batted first and were soon in strife at 3/19. Simon Roberts joined skipper Luke Harding in a crucial partnership worth 46 runs before Roberts was dismissed for 36 (63 balls). Harding went on to top score and was the last batsman dismissed for 61 from 182 balls (4 x 4’s). Six McLaren Districts bowlers took wickets with Jett Holberton (3/15) and Ryan (3/16) leading the way.

Goolwa are in a good position to win their first game of the season after scoring 3/240 on day one of their clash on the turf at Victor Harbor. The Magpies innings was underpinned by a century to all-rounder Andy Evans. Evans made 103 not out and he was well supported by skipper Sam Carlyle who made 69, his highest score of the season. Jake Kuss (25) also made a handy contribution to Goolwa’s score. Jesse Ortega (2/38) and Dylan Flavel (1/27) were the wicket takers for the Vipers.
