Strathalbyn’s Kathy Pash led the Panthers with a first ball hit to the outfield and with great base running stole her way home with Peyton Daniels gaining a walk and being brought home by Kathryn Milne but they were the only runs gained while even though they got batters on Hahndorf shut them down with an out at third, an out at home and a put out at first by Jess Matchett. Hahndorf’s first dig also produced a hit to the outfield by Breanna Luxon and she was brought home by Sophie Walton but that was the only run for the innings with Strath’s second baser Ashlee Peterson making an out at first, a K2 to pitcher/catcher Tess Norris to Gab Marting and a great running catch taken by centre Pash.
While Strath got batters on base in the second they were unable to bring any home with Hahndorf making an out at first, an out at home to stop the run and a K2 to pitcher/catcher Lucy Weatherstone and Walton. Hahndorf’s batting dig included safe hits to Matchett, Nancy Johns, Luxon and Charlotte Fairley and a two baser to Megan Williams which brought in six runs with Strath’s centre fielder Pash taking another great catch, a K2 and a pick off of the lead runner at second by Georgia Tomkinson ended the innings.
Strath refocused for their third batting dig and with some great pitch selection they gained eight walks with a single to Norris and with loaded bases the highlight was a grand slam hit to right field by Tomkinson helping to bring in a total of seven runs to add to the tally. Hahndorf were looking to repeat their second batting dig and had a safe hit to Johns but they were unable to bring anyone home with new pitcher Daniels working well with Martin for two K2’s and another great catch at centre by Pash keeping them scoreless with Strathalbyn holding on for the win 9 runs to 7.
