Redsox and Strathalbyn played the late game in the second A grade semi-final with Redsox batting first. Strathalbyn started the game well defensively with catcher Gab Martin making an out at first and right fielder Georgia Tomkinson taking two great catches to hold them scoreless with three up three down. Strath’s first turn at bat produced a three baser to Kim Cutting, two baser to Kathy Pash and a single to Martin which brought in three runs with Redsox pitcher/catcher combo of Claire Mohan-Ram to Alex Mackay producing two K2’s and short stop Steph Hull making an out at first.
Redsox had safe hits to Kel O’Brien and Erin Adams-McDonald in the second but they could not bring anyone home with Strath’s Tomkinson taking another catch, fielding and throwing to Kathryn Milne at first and short stop Cutting throwing to Peyton Daniels at third to pick off the lead runner holding them scoreless again. Strath drew some errors and had safe hits to Daniels and Milne and with some great base running they brought three runs home with Redsox centre Saskia Charter-Harris taking a catch, right fielder Adams-McDonald taking a catch and third baser Chloe Zakelj making the out at first to end the innings.
Zakelj hit a two baser in Redsox third turn at bat and was brought home by a safe hit to Zoe Thompson for the only run of the innings with Strath’s second baser Ashlee Peterson making two outs at first and Cutting making the third out at first base. The third dig for Strath got Tomkinson on base and produced another safe hit to Cutting and with great base running Tomkinson was able to steal home for the only run of the innings with Redsox picking off the lead runner at second, making an out at first and left fielder Thompson taking a catch.
The fourth turn at bat for Redsox was scoreless too with Cutting picking off the lead runner at second, taking a catch and Tomkinson taking her fourth catch for the game at right field to end the innings with just four batters up. Redsox really switched on in the field with centre Charter-Harris taking another catch, short stop Hull taking a great line drive catch and second baser Lauren Christensen making the third out at first base to hold Strath scoreless with three up three down.
Redsox needed to make runs in the fifth and they got Hull on base who then stole her way to second, advanced to third by Christensen and then stole home but unfortunately she was the only run in with Strath’s left fielder Bianca Pash taking a catch, Peterson making another out at first and a K2 holding them. Strath came in looking for some runs to add to their tally and walk away with a mercy win but Redsox weren’t giving up with a pick off of the lead runner and another catch at right but with some great base running and a two base hit to Daniels they brought runners home to come away with the win Strathalbyn 9 runs to Redsox 2 and head straight into the Grand Final.
