Panthers win three on the trot in Hills Softball

On a very warm night Strathalbyn came up to bat first and had safe hits to the outfield by Kim Cutting and Georgia Tomkinson which brought Cutting home with Redsox short stop Steph Hull fielding and tagging the runner and quickly playing second base for a double play with the third out a K2 to pitcher/catcher Zoe Thomson to Alex Mackay. Strath did a great job in the field with third baser Peyton Daniels taking a catch, second baser Ashlee Peterson also taking a catch and a K2 to pitcher/catcher Tess Norris to Cutting to send Redsox from the diamond three up three down.

Strath had some great pitch selection in the second gaining some walks which got batters on base with Tomkinson’s safe hit bringing home a run before Redsox made an out at home, another K2 and a catch at centre by Chloe Zakelj. Redsox also picked some walks and had a couple of safe hits which brought in their first run for the game before Strath could shut them down with a pick off at second base and another two K2’s.

The third dig for Strath had a hit to the outfield by Daniels but she was unable to make it home with Redsox making an out at first and two K2’s to hold them scoreless. It was four up three outs and scoreless for Redsox even with a great hit to right by Hull with Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo making another K2 and Norris and Cutting both taking catches.

Strath’s fourth dig had hits to Cutting, Daniels and Kathryn Milne and with some great base running they added a further three runs before Redsox left fielder Saskia Charter-Harris and right fielder Sienna Golder took catches and a K2 ended the innings. Redsox highlight in the fourth was a hit to right field by Catalina Sterian but Strath’s new pitcher Daniels worked hard with Cutting for three K2’s which held Redsox scoreless again.

Even with a hit to left by Kathy Pash Strath were shut down in the fifth with Hull again great in the field taking a catch and quickly throwing to first to catch the runner short for another double play and yet another K2 for the game ended the innings with Strath unable to add to their score. Redsox got batters on base and with a two base hit to Mackay and great base running they brought home two runs with Strath’s Daniels making an out at first, a line drive stop and out at first by Peterson and a great running catch at right by Norris ended the innings and the game with Strathalbyn coming out on top 5 runs to 3 in a tight game.
