Next week will see work begin on a new pedestrian crossing between Victor Harbor’s iconic Causeway and Warland Reserve.
The City of Victor Harbor has awarded Base Civil the contract to construct the new pedestrian crossing on Flinders Parade.
Works will begin on Monday 23 September and are expected to be completed by late October.
The council says the works schedule has been designed to minimise impact on businesses and tourism at the prominent location.
This will include the next school holiday period, from 30 September to 14 October.
Mayor Moira Jenkins says she is pleased to see the preliminary works begin on the crossing.
“The roadway between Warland Reserve and the causeway is regularly bustling with pedestrians attempting to cross safely,” she says.
“The introduction of a crossing prioritises pedestrian wellbeing and road safety, while aiding in the flow of foot traffic between a number of tourism sites and local businesses.”
Temporary road closures will allow new lighting and roadway adjustments to be made safely and detours will be clearly signed.
Construction will be conducted Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm with possibility of some Saturday works.
