Artist Phil Baines wants to install a penguin sculpture near the Penneshaw skate park and Kangaroo Island Council is calling for community feedback on the public art proposal.
The design features three penguins, with the largest standing two metres tall, sitting on an oval concrete base.
It would be created in a style similar to the artist’s kangaroo sculpture, located opposite the Penneshaw Medical Centre.
Mr Baines will apply for a grant to fund construction and installation of the sculpture, which would become part of the council’s public art collection if supported, with ongoing responsibility for maintenance and insurance.
The council therefore wants community feedback on the idea, to help determine if it will issue a permit for the sculpture and provide a letter of support for the artist’s grant proposal.
Consultation is now open; it closes at 5pm on Wednesday 8 October. More information on the proposal can be viewed on the council website, where feedback can be lodged.
