Penneshaw public jetty concept design image courtesy of DIT.Work has begun on an upgrade of Kangaroo Island's Penneshaw public jetty by the state Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).
The project is intended to extend the life of the jetty and improve safety and access by realigning it away from the busy ferry terminal.
It will include a new concrete boardwalk connecting to the historic timber jetty, new steel piles, refurbishment of the remaining timber jetty, new lighting, and removal of the temporary cruise ship landing and crane pad.
Most work will take place between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday, with some night works required to avoid impacting ferry services.
Construction is expected to continue through to late 2026, depending on weather conditions, with public access to the new cruise ship landing area and jetty restored in time for next summer’s cruise season.
