A proposal to store PFAS-contaminated waste at a McLaren Vale landfill site will be discussed at a community information session on Thursday 30 July.
The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) will host the drop in session between 2pm and 8pm at The McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre.
Southern Waste Resource Co applied to the EPA in February to receive, store and treat the chemical waste at the site on Tatachilla Road.
PFAS chemicals are best known for their use in fire-fighting foams, which have been a major source of groundwater contamination.
The chemicals linger in the environment and in the human body; they don’t break down and they can accumulate over time with potential adverse health effects.
The EPA will provide information on the science behind the proposal, how it would need to be regulated, and the health research and advice that is relevant to South Australians.
COVID-19 protocols require anyone interested to book in a time at the information session. Full details are available on the EPA website, or you can email or phone 8124 4216.
