Pipers take flight in the Hills Cricket Association

Mylor won their first game of the season with a five-wicket victory over the previously undefeated Mount Lofty during round 10 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) on Saturday. In what is the biggest upset of the season so far, the Pipers proved too good for the Redcaps on a beautiful day for Cricket at the picturesque Mylor Oval. Mount Lofty batted first and got off to a good start through openers Nick Justice (35) and Josh Healey (32) who added 58 runs for the first wicket. Mylor hit back well with no other batsman reaching 20 for the Redcaps as they were bowled out for 142 in the 44th over. Todd Dellatorre was the destroyer for the Pipers with 4/25 (8.5), while Oliver Barnes bowled a tight spell to finish with 2/17 (9). Mylor lost Tom Quinn (0) early before Adrian Gaunt (23) and Ben James (36) added 60 runs for the second wicket. Handy contributions from Shane Maslin (19) and Alex Kern (13) took Mylor within sight of victory before Barnes (20 not out) and Dellatorre (12 not out) added 33 for the sixth wicket to see the home side over the line in the 31st over. Adam Carthew was the best of the Redcaps bowlers with 2/28 from his nine overs.

Stirling are up to second spot on the ladder following a tight eight-run win against Kangarilla at Stirling Oval on Saturday. The Eagles batted first and posted a competitive 7/165 from their 45 overs. Daniel Gonzalez top scored for the reigning premier with 42 and he was well supported by Jacob Kemp (28 not out) and Raph Baker (27). Steve Featherstone (3/38) and Troy Martinsen (2/30) were the multiple wicket takers for Kangarilla. ‘Kangies’ lost a couple of early wickets with Ethan Penck (2/21) removing Featherstone (0) and the dangerous Lachlan Knight (1). Cole Davy (21) and Carlos Venter (45) steadied the ship before a middle order collapse, brought on by Jack Read taking 3/31 (9), left the visitors in dire straits. All looked lost until Ryan Grimmond was joined by number 11 Jack Evans. This pair put a big scare through the Eagles ranks with a last wicket partnership ending just eight runs short. Grimmond finished with 36 not out, while Jack Evans made 20 not out. Chris Shaw (2/35) was the other multiple wicket taker for Stirling.

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) produced an excellent run chase to win their third game of the season and keep their finals hopes alive after defeating Uraidla by seven wickets. Uraidla batted first with Pete Wilson (45) and Israel Symington (30) making handy contributions as the Demons finished their 45 overs on 9/194. Beau Thomas (3/38), Daniel Key (3/49), and Daniel Desengo (2/38) were the multiple wicket takers for SCIB, while Andy Adams bowled a miserly spell of 1/15 from his nine overs. Scott Creek Ironbank got off to a good start with an opening stand of 69 runs between Adam Shearwood (23) and Devin Payne. Payne was joined shortly after by the veteran Adams and this pair basically put the game to 'bed' with a 116-run partnership for the third wicket before Adams went for 51 (58 balls). Payne continued on to top score with 88 not out from 102 balls (14 x 4’s, 1 x 6) with the winning runs coming up in the 35th over.

Rohan Reid scored his third hundred of the season to lead Meadows to a comfortable 79-run win against Bridgewater at Meadows Oval. The home side batted first and lost Luke Tonkin (7) early to bring Oscar Tydeman to the crease to join Reid. This pair added 213 runs for the second wicket with teenager Tydeman making his first ‘A’ grade century with 108 from 114 balls (16 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Reid went on to top score with 116 from 109 balls (14 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s) as the Bulldogs posted 5/269. Reid now has 532 runs for the season at the unbelievable average of 177.33! Luke Hoyle (2/44) and Anthony Jennings (2/61) were the multiple wicket takers for the Raiders. Bridgewater set out in the run chase with a 65-run opening stand from the ‘old firm’ of Justin Summerill (20) and Luke Hoyle. Will Fearnhead was next in and he made 36 (57 balls), while Hoyle went on to top score with 49 (77 balls) before being run out. Liam Sutcliffe made 38 not out (38 balls) as the visitors batted out their 45 overs to finish on 8/190. Callan Blackwell was the standout performer for Meadows with the ball as he finished with the figures of 4/25 from seven overs.
