The state government have released the designs for the long anticipated $560M upgrades to Main South Road and Victor Harbor Roads.
Victor Harbor Road will be duplicated between Main South Road and the McLaren Vale turn off, with additional safety treatments along Victor Harbor Road
(including an overtaking lane at Hindmarsh Valley).
A roundabout will be installed at Old Noarlunga at the intersection of Robinson Road and a realigned entrance to Quarry Road.
A planning study to investigate the preferred solution for Victor Harbor Road between Main Road, McLaren Vale and Tatachilla Road and to Willunga Hill will be undertaken in the future.
In Stage 1 of the Main South Road project, the road will be duplicated from Seaford to Aldinga with overpasses built at the intersection of Tatachilla Road and Maslin Beach Road and the intersection of Port Road.
A dual lane roundabout will be installed at the junction of Main South Road and Aldinga Road.
Stage 2 will see a ‘2+1’ lane road layout between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach. A ‘2+1’ lane road layout consists of two lanes in one direction and one lane in the other, alternating every few kilometres.
Member for Mayo, Rebekah Sharkie has been advocating for upgrades to Fleurieu roads for some time and the funding includes Federal investments that she secured for additional overtaking lanes and intersection upgrades.
“I’m pleased that the Federal Government is making this investment in this fast-growing corridor. This is one of the most significant infrastructure spends in Mayo,” Ms Sharkie said.
“I have long advocated for greater investment in upgrading our roads across Mayo.
“There are a number of regions within my electorate where the population is growing rapidly and there is enormous pressure on the existing road network, and the Aldinga, Sellicks, South Fleurieu is one of those areas.
“South Road is also the main transport route down the Fleurieu to Kangaroo Island so improving safety is incredibly important.
“I will continue to do all I can advocate for better infrastructure for Aldinga, Sellicks and the Southern Fleurieu.”
