The Our Plover Coast Project will hold a planting event on National Tree Day, Sunday 28 July, at Carrickalinga.
Supported by Green Adelaide and Landscapes Hills & Fleurieu, the project aims to help rehabilitate the Carrickalinga foredunes and build habitat for endangered Hooded Plovers.
The chosen plant species for the site have been identified as more resistant to fire as part of the Fire Wise Project run by the Fleurieu Environment Centre with support from the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife.
It has received grant funding from the federal government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream.
The District Council of Yankalilla has prepared the site for revegetation and volunteers are asked to join the planting crew at The Rotunda Carpark, Haycock Point Lookout, from 10am to 12noon.
They should be prepared for the weather conditions and take gardening gloves, although some will be available on the day.
The Fleurieu Environment Centre will put on a hot meal after the planting session, so potential planters are asked to register via Humanitix and RSVP for lunch.
