The District Council of Yankalilla will lobby the state government to extend the metropolitan bus service to the region.
At the council meeting on Tuesday 19 September Cr Davina Quirke put forward the motion, which was carried unanimously.
She says the need for the community to access services outside the council area has increased, particularly with the ageing demographic of permanent residents.
Extending the service that now ends at Sellicks would enhance their independence and wellbeing, as well as assisting with local tourism.
Mayor Darryl Houston told ABC radio that ideally the council would like to see a bus service right down to Cape Jervis, but at least to Normanville would help.
“A lot of people have medical appointments in town.”
The 750 bus service runs from Sellicks Beach to Noarlunga Central via Aldinga and Seaford interchange, where commuters can catch a train to Adelaide.
Mayor Houston says extending the service another 20km to Yankalilla and Normanville is logical and not too difficult to achieve,
He says providing an affordable public bus service at least twice a day would make a huge difference to the community.
